I am Director of the Research Unit Democracy: Structures, Performance, Challenges at the WZB Social Science Research Centre Berlin and Professor of Political Science at the Humboldt University Berlin. I am a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and advisor to many European governments. I am also an associate of the Sydney Democracy Network, University of Sydney. I am a non-party member of the Basic Values Commission of the Executive Committee of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) and a member of the social sciences review board of the German Research Foundation (DFG)
