Yang is a Lecturer in Sociology and Data Science at Lancaster University. He obtained his MPhil and Ph.D in Sociology as a Gates Scholar from the University of Cambridge. Yang previously taught postgraduate research methods at the University of Essex, and he also taught and supervised students in social sciences at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on gender and the family, migration and ethnicity, and East Asian societies. He has also worked as an interpreter for organisations such as the UNDP.
