Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, University of Johannesburg

Dr Yolandi Meyer graduated with the LLB (2011) and LLM (International Law) (2013) degrees
from the University of Pretoria. She completed her LLM thesis on the topic of targeted killings
under the supervision of the former UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or
arbitrary executions, Professor Christof Heyns. Dr Meyer completed her LLD degree, with a
full scholarship from the South African National Research Fund, under the supervision of ILC
member Professor Dire Tladi. Her thesis dealt with issues of trade, human rights and
environmental law, and the balance between development and preservation of human rights
and the environment, specifically relating to the responsibility of multinational corporations
in the extractive industries. In 2018 she received an International Law Association Scholarship
to attend the International Law Association’s 78th Biennial Conference where she also became
a member of the International Law Association (ILA) Committee on Nuclear Weapons, Non-
Proliferation and Contemporary International Law. Dr Meyer currently holds the position of
post-doctoral fellow at the South African Research Chair for International Law at the
University of Johannesburg.
