Zaki Hassan-Smith

Consultant Endocrinologist and Honorary Senior Research Fellow, University of Birmingham

Dr Hassan-Smith's research is focused on the effects of steroid hormones (such as glucocorticoids and vitamin D) on muscle function and the implications for human health across the life-span. His research portfolio includes basic and clinical interventional studies, in addition to registries of endocrine diseases. He is interested in the global impact of nutritional deficiencies and metabolic disease. He is Editorial Advisor to theBMJ (British Medical Journal), and sits on the Society for Endocrinology Public Engagement Committee. He is currently Consultant Endocrinologist and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Birmingham with clinical interests in Endocrinology, Metabolic Bone, Pituitary and Thyroid diseases.
