Zavareh Rustomjee

Dr Zavareh Rustomjee is an independent consultant and development economist with extensive experience in the development and implementation of industrial, trade, energy and infrastructure policy; private and public sector strategy development as well as having served on the boards of a number of South African Development Finance Institutions.

Zavareh researched and contributed to the development of industrial and trade policy in South Africa between 1990 and 1999, during which he also served for 5 years as the Director General of the DTI. Apart from public service and consulting roles, he has accumulated 14 years of professional engineering and managerial experience in the South African petroleum, industrial gas and contracting sectors.

Zavareh has a Phd in Economics (SOAS, London), holds an MPhil in development economics (IDS, Sussex), MSc.Industrial Engineering, BSc.(Hons)Chemical Engineering, is a Chartered Chemical Engineer (U.K) and a registered professional engineer in South Africa
