Screening social media accounts deters job applicants

Jobseekers are less likely to seek employment with a company that reviews social media accounts as part of the recruitment process, US research has found.

In two separate studies, candidates for a hypothetical job were told their Facebook accounts had been reviewed by their potential employer. In both studies candidates reported a negative view of the employer.

These candidates also reported they were also more likely to take legal action against the prospective employer for invasion of privacy.
