Unwashed hands and the spread of disease

Men are less likely to properly wash their hands as 50% wash their hands with soap compared to 78% of women, new research has found.

Hand washing is the most effective preventative to combat the spread of diseases requiring 15-20 seconds of vigorous washing. Yet one in ten people do not wash their hands after using the toilet.

The Michigan State University study encourages people to take extra time at the sink to better prevent illnesses and beat the average washing time of six seconds.
