Not even a stable environment will stop evolution, a 25-year study has found.
E coli bacteria, observed over 40,000 or so generations, constantly evolved despite remaining in the same conditions.
The finding that the bacteria “just got fitter and fitter” suggests good news for future human generations – but we will have to wait millions of years in the future to find out.
