Young Australians unaware of dietary guidelines

University of Sydney researchers surveyed 106 university students between the ages of 18 to 24 and found only 54% knew the recommended daily servings for fruits and vegetables. Students were also unable to identify the correct serving size for common fruits and vegetables.

When asked to identify vegetables in a beef hotpot pie, 78% of students classified canned tomatoes as vegetables and one in 10 believed beef counted towards daily fruit and vegetables servings.
