At the end of this year, world leaders will converge on Paris with the aim of thrashing out a climate deal that will hopefully keep global warming within the world’s agreed limit of 2C (or at least, not too much beyond that).
It’s far from a straightforward prospect. The last time there was this much anticipation of a global climate deal was before the 2009 Copenhagen climate summit, but those talks famously failed to live up to the hype.
So what does it take to get the world on board with tackling climate change? In the runup to Paris, we’ll be aiming to answer as many of your questions as possible on how the United Nations climate talks will work. Which leaders will be there? How do nations decide on their climate targets, and what do those targets really mean for global warming? Who talks to whom once everyone is around the table in December? And why so much expectation now, given that this is the 21st round of annual UN climate negotiations?
