Most food waste still goes into red bins of mixed waste bound for landfill. It’s using up precious landfill space and harming the environment when it could produce valuable compost and biogas instead.
Even on ‘Mars’, humans waste food. And some types of food are more likely to end up in the bin than others.
Across Africa less than 10% of the population is connected to a sewer system. But the waste could be used elsewhere.
