Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS)

Le Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) est un organisme public de recherche (Établissement public à caractère scientifique et technologique, placé sous la tutelle du Ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche). Il produit du savoir et met ce savoir au service de la société. Avec près de 33 000 personnes (dont 24 747 statutaires - 11 116 chercheurs et 13 631 ingénieurs, techniciens et administratifs), un budget pour 2014 de 3,29 milliards d'euros dont 722 million d'euros de ressources propres, une implantation sur l'ensemble du territoire national, le CNRS exerce son activité dans tous les champs de la connaissance, en s'appuyant sur plus de 1100 unités de recherche et de service.


The National Center for Scientific Research is a public organization under the responsibility of the French Ministry of Education and Research. Founded in 1939 by governmental decree, CNRS has the following missions: Evaluate and carry out all research capable of advancing knowledge and bringing social, cultural, and economic benefits for society; contribute to the application and promotion of research results; develop scientific information; support research training; and participate in the analysis of the national and international scientific climate and its potential for evolution in order to develop a national policy.
