Physician trained in internal medicine, clinical epidemiology and cardiovascular research, with extensive experience (18+ years) in design, analysis, and publication of observational studies, randomized clinical trials, and meta-analyses. Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology. As of April 2021, Dr. Hernandez has 220 peer-reviewed publications in Pubmed, and an H-index of 48.

Currently focused on clinical outcomes research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses of cohort studies and randomized controlled trials, clinical practice guidelines using GRADE methodology, and administrative claims database analyses.

Topics of expertise in clinical research are cardiovascular diseases (acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, diabetes, obesity, vascular/cardiac surgery), novel oral anticoagulants, venous thromboembolism, peri-operative medicine, obstructive sleep apnea, and HIV-associated infections.
