Alan McDougall is Professor of History at the University of Guelph. His books include "The People's Game: Football, State and Society in East Germany" (Cambridge, 2014) and "Contested Fields: A Global History of Modern Football" (Toronto, 2020). He is currently writing an international social history of Liverpool Football Club.
