Professor Emeritus of Education, University of South Australia

Alan Reid is Professor Emeritus of Education at the University of South Australia where he has held a number of positions ranging from Director of Research Centres, Dean of Education, and Professor of Education. He has been a leading figure in some significant policy developments at the state and national levels.
Alan’s research and writing interests focus on education policy and curriculum. In the past three years he has written some significant research monographs for key national educational associations, and spoken about them around the country. For example, in 2018 he wrote Beyond Certainty: A Process for Thinking about Futures for Australian Education for the Australian Secondary Principals Association (ASPA), which has sparked national debate in the education community. His new book Changing Australian Education was published by Allen and Unwin in October, 2019.
Professor Reid’s contributions to education have been recognised through a number of awards at state and national levels, including the Gold Medal of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders (ACEL). In 2009 he was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor; on Australia Day, 2012, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM); and in 2017 he was named as one of four finalists for South Australian of the Year.
