Alex Hoagland works on a variety of topics in theoretical and empirical health economics, spanning issues such as chronic illness, innovation in health treatments, and mental health economics. His current projects focus on how consumers form beliefs about their health needs, the impact of behavioral decision-making processes for chronic disease management, and the response of hyper-specialized professionals such as surgeons to disruptive innovations in their field.
