Alex J. Hollingsworth

Assistant Professor in School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University

Alex Hollingsworth joined SPEA as an assistant professor in 2015. He completed his Ph.D. and master’s in economics at the University of Arizona. At the undergraduate level, Hollingsworth studied quantitative economics and diplomacy and foreign affairs at Miami University in Ohio.

Hollingsworth studies health economics. His recent research focuses on how access to retail health clinics affects unnecessary visits to nearby emergency departments. He found that the savings associated with diverting expensive emergency department treatment to less costly retail clinics could be conservatively estimated at $88 million in 2012 alone.
