I am an astrophysicist who has spent most of his career in university adult education. At present my time is split between University of Glasgow's Centre for Open Studies and its School of Physics and Astronomy.

In the Centre for Open Studies I coordinate the mature student Access programme, I also teach Mathematics on the Access course.

In Physics and Astronomy I carry out research on the physics of solar flares, particularly the high energy processes that lead to X-rays, gamma-rays and energetic neutrons. I am also interested in self-organised criticality and complex systems in astrophysics. Publications list: And a recent research collaborative effort:
