Researcher, P-SEC Research Group, University of New Brunswick

Alissa Moore earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the University of British Columbia in 2009 with a major in Microbiology and Immunology. In 2015, she returned to university to do a nursing degree at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). She graduated from UNB with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 2019.

During her studies at UNB, she started working as a research assistant with the Psycho-Social Ethnography of the Commonplace (P-SEC; https://p-sec.org/) research group. In 2020, Alissa Moore was hired full-time as the research project co-ordinator for the P-SEC group where she does analysis, manuscripts, data collection, etc. as well as coordinator. She enjoys being part of the interdisciplinary research approach of the P-SEC group, which contributes to the understanding and improvement of the experiences of marginalised groups. In addition to her coordination work of research projects (Métis identity, Informal caregivers of older adults, LGBTQIA2S+ in the military), she has collaborated predominantly on the P-SEC group’s work examining the experience and health of older adults (90+) living independently, and that of Canadian women firefighters.

Alissa plans to further her training and pursue a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Public Health. She is especially interested in harm reduction and upstream social policy-level interventions to promote population health and health equity.
