Andrew Murphy

Andrew Murphy is a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin, where he is 1867 Professor of English. His areas of research interest are Shakespeare studies and Irish studies. He has published books on the history of the editing and publishing of Shakespeare's works; working-class readers of Shakespeare; literacy and cultural nationalism in Ireland; the Irish context of English Renaissance literature; the poetry of Seamus Heaney. He is currently editing a volume on literature and the concept of the British nation.

Prior to joining the faculty of Trinity College Dublin Andrew worked for 20 years at the University of St Andrews in the UK. He served as Head of the School of English there and was subsequently the inaugural Director of the Graduate School for Interdisciplinary Studies and Provost of St Leonard's College (St Andrews' postgraduate college).
