April holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York. She is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Behavioral Sciences Training program at the National Developmental Research Institutes.

Her main research interest is the use of performance enhancing substances (PES)--legal and non--within amateur sports. Her doctoral dissertation focused on amateur runners' perceptions of health and healthy lifestyles and how these perceptions inform their decisions to use PES.
