Ashley Jean MacDonald

(She/Her)
PhD Student, Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University

I am a PhD student at Dalhousie's Faculty of Agriculture and a Part-time Academic in the Business and Social Science department. My primary research area is in agricultural business, with a particular interest in sustainability and data-driven decision-making. I am a mixed method researcher, predominantly working with interview, survey, and social media data to analyze complex actor networks and social relationships with food and agricultural production. My current research is looking at how decisions are made on small-scale dairy farms and how to better enable sustainable production in the Atlantic region. Prior to this work, I conducted research on the feasibility of interventions of reducing retail food waste and the effectiveness of organic waste policy at changing household food waste behaviour in Canada.
