Augy Syaihailatua

Director, Research Centre for Deep Sea, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI)

Augy Syahailatua is the director of Research Centre for Deep Sea - Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). 

He received his bachelor degree in fishery science at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). He earned his Graduate Diploma and Masters degree in biological science from the University of New South Wales as well as his PhD in fishery oceanography. 

Syahailatua has been involved in numerous research on fisheries, including the biology and ecology of coral reef fishes in eastern Indonesian waters, flyingfish in Indonesian waters, census of marine life in Ambon waters, as well as management of Ambon bay.

He has been a visiting lecturer for marine science and technology program at IPB since 2007. 

In 2007, He had the Endeavor Award from the Australian Government for doing research on flyingfish, and then in 2013, he received the “Satyalancana Karya Satya XX” from Indonesian Government for 20 years service to the country.
