Bachtiar Mutaqin

Associate professor, Universitas Gadjah Mada

Dr. Mutaqin is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). He got his Ph.D. in Physical Geography from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, France in 2018. His Ph.D. thesis is about the geomorphic impacts of the 1257 CE Samalas eruption along the Alas Strait in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. His research interests include coastal geomorphology, oceanography, paleotsunami, and sedimentology. He got several international awards, e.g., the Young Geomorphologist Grants Award from the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG/AIG) in 2017 and 2019; and Prix Mahar Schützenberger from Association Franco-Indonésienne pour le Développement des Sciences in 2017. Currently, he is also the secretary of the Indonesian Association of Oceanologists - Commissariat Yogyakarta and the secretary of the Center of Marine Resources and Technology UGM as well.
