Professor of exercise and work physiology, University of Montana

I serve as the Director of the Montana Center for Work Physiology and Exercise Metabolism (WPEM) and have worked in the area of applied human physiology for my entire tenure at the University of Montana. Our research team focuses on the study of human work in extreme environments and the interactions between metabolism and environmental conditions. I have maintained a 25+ year career working closely with wildland fire crews across the American West to better understand how the physiological demands of the job and how the fire season may alter metabolic health. As a way to address some of the struggles fire families deal with, I completed a children's book, "Wrango and Banjo: On the Fireline." The goal of this book series to simply to help crew members tell their own stories to young people. Visit www.wrangoandbanjo.com.
