Bruce Lanphear, a Professor at Simon Fraser University, led studies used by federal agencies to set standards for lead in air, water and house dust, and to conclude that no amount of lead is safe for children. He has led many community-based, randomized, controlled trials to test the efficacy of reducing environmental hazards on dust lead levels, children’s lead concentrations, injuries, preterm births, asthma symptoms or behavioral problems. Lanphear produces Little Things Matter videos to show how our health is inextricably linked with the environment and to elevate efforts to prevent disease. Bruce and his partner, Nancy, live in a cohousing community surrounded by ancient cedars and firs on Bowen Island in the Salish Sea.
