My research focusses on the conceptualisation, measurement and development of leadership. My work spans several contexts which include examining leadership in military, sport, organisations, education, and expedition settings. I specialise in cross contextual leadership with a particular focus on the inspirational and motivational component of leadership. In essence my research examines what separates great leaders from good leaders and is typically, but not exclusively, underpinned by transformational leadership theory. I am currently working with several PhD students that are examining factors such as, personality and leader emergence, expedition leadership, leadership in higher education, leadership and the development of mental toughness in military training.
