Camille Besombes

Camille Besombes est médecin infectiologue dans l'unité d'épidémiologie des maladies infectieuses émergentes à l'Institut Pasteur de Paris. Elle a auparavant effectué différentes missions de gestion des épidémies de bactéries multirésistantes en Haïti avec Médecins Sans Frontières, de prévention de maladies vectorielles au Bangladesh avec GOARN / OMS, ainsi que des recherches sur l'épidémiologie de l'hépatite delta au Cameroun.

Elle est désormais engagée dans le projet AFRIPOX : une approche One Health de la variole du singe en République Centrafricaine, un projet alliant approches épidémiologique, écologique, zoologique, anthropologique et virologique de la variole du singe. Ce projet vise à identifier le réservoir animal du virus monkeypox et les facteurs de risque de transmission zoonotique, environnementale et interhumaine de ce virus, à travers l’investigation des épidémies de variole du singe avec l’Institut Pasteur de Bangui en République Centrafricaine.
Son travail est plus particulièrement orienté vers l’éco-épidémiologie et l’écologie de la santé.

Camille Besombes is an infectious disease physician, currently based in the Emerging Diseases Epidemiology Unit at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. She has previously carried out different missions in Haiti with Doctor without border, in Bangladesh with GOARN/WHO, and in Cameroon for the epidemiology of hepatitis delta.

She is now involved in the AFRIPOX project: a One Health approach of monkeypox in the Central African Republic, a project combining epidemiological, ecological, zoological, anthropological and virological approaches to monkeypox. This project aims to identify the animal reservoir of the monkeypox virus and the risk factors of zoonotic, environmental and human-to-human transmission of this virus, through the investigation of monkeypox epidemics with the Institut Pasteur of Bangui, Central African Republic.
Her work is particularly oriented towards eco-epidemiology and the Eco Health approach.
