Senior Lecturer in Critical Popular Music Studies, Massey University

Catherine Hoad is a senior lecturer in the School of Music and Creative Media Production at Massey University, Wellington, and Chair of the Australia-Aotearoa/New Zealand branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM). She is a co-investigator on the Amplify Aotearoa project, a research initiative which examines equity and diversity in the New Zealand music industry, with wider research interests in heavy metal scenes, cultures, and practices. Her edited collection on Australian heavy metal was published in 2019, and her first monograph is forthcoming through Palgrave.
