Catherine Marshall est Professeur en histoire et civilisation britannique à CY Cergy Paris Université (anciennement université de Cergy-Pontoise) et directrice du laboratoire AGORA. Sa recherche porte sur l’histoire des idées dans la seconde moitié du siècle victorien et sur l’héritage de ces idées aux XXème et XXIème siècles. Son prochain ouvrage, Political Deference in a Democratic Age. British Politics and the Constitution from the Eighteenth Century to Brexit est à paraître chez Palgrave Macmillan (printemps 2021). Son prochain article « The English Constitution (1867) de Walter Bagehot: Un « Miroir aux princes » ou un prince dans le miroir ? » sera publié dans la Revue Française d’Histoire des Idées Politiques en 2021.

Catherine Marshall is Professor of British Studies at CY Cergy Paris Université (formerly the Université of Cergy-Pontoise, France) and Director of the AGORA research centre. Her research focuses mainly on the history of ideas in the second-half of the nineteenth century. She also works on the development of political ideas in Victorian Britain and on their legacy in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. She is the co-editor, with Bernard Lightman and Richard England, of a 3-volume critical edition of "The papers of The Metaphysical Society (1869-1880)" (Oxford University Press, 2015) and "The Metaphysical Society. Intellectual Life in Mid-Victorian England" (OUP, 2019). She also co-edited, with Jean-Paul Rosaye, an issue of the journal Philosophical Enquiries on “L’idéalisme britannique - British Idealism” (Editions Matériologiques, 2018) and co-edited with Stéphane Guy, "The Victorian Legacy in Political Thought" (Peter Lang, 2014). Her forthcoming book analyses the concept of Deference in a democratic age, from the 18th century to Brexit (with Palgrave for 2021).
