Celia Karp

Dr. Celia Karp's work encompasses two overarching areas: systems shaping women's health and well-being, including access to and quality of care and contraceptive counseling, and psychosocial determinants of reproductive health, specifically, perspectives about pregnancy, decision-making related to childbearing and contraception, and experiences managing fertility.

As a Senior Technical Advisor with Performance Monitoring for Action (PMA) and PMA-Ethiopia, Dr. Karp leads research investigating reproductive empowerment, quality of care, and availability and use of maternal and reproductive health services. She collaborates with PMA country partners to enhance data use and dissemination, producing actionable data for the improvement of health systems and services. Dr. Karp's research interests also focus on measures of empowerment and how they relate to contraceptive use, preferences, and choices. Through her research, Dr. Karp seeks to enhance understanding and measurement of factors contributing to sexual and reproductive health outcomes and inequities.

Dr. Karp received her PhD from the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology and maternal and reproductive health.
