PhD student, Cranfield University

Chiara Palla studied for her bachelor in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Padova, Italy; then she pursued the MSc in Aerospace & Astronautics Engineering at the same university, graduating in 2013. In December 2013 she started her PhD at Cranfield University; here she joined the Cranfield Space Research Centre.

Her PhD theme is within Space debris mitigation, a branch of Clean Space initiative which is a new approach with regard to the use of space in order to reduce the environmental impacts of space activities and operations both on Earth and space.

In particular she focuses on de-orbit systems with the aim of develop a simple and reliable mechanism for de-orbit satellites at the end of life.
