Associate Professor, University of Southampton

Dr Christina Vogel, is a registered nutritionist and has worked in public health nutrition for 18 years in Australia and Europe. She leads a programme of research dedicated to improving population health and reducing inequalities through food and nutrition-based initiatives. Christina’s research group investigates the psychological and socio-economic pathways between the food environment and diets of women and children, and tests interventions to improve poor diet. Christina has attracted more than £2.5million in research funding, including leading a product placement trial with Iceland Foods and evaluation of the UK NHS Healthy Start programme. Christina gave evidence to the House of Lord’s Select Committee on Food, Poverty, Health and the Environment, and Southampton City Council’s scrutiny inquiry on childhood obesity; she authored Chapter 2 of WHO European Region’s report on obesity. Her work has received national and international press coverage and she is Deputy Editor of the journal Public Health Nutrition.
