Ciska Kemper

ICREA Research Professor of Astrophysics, Instituto de Ciencias del Espacio (ICE - CSIC)

Ciska Kemper is an ICREA research professor at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC) in Cerdanyola del Vallès, near Barcelona. She is an expert on infrared and (sub-)millimeter studies of dust and gas in interstellar and circumstellar environments. She makes use of state-of-the-art facilities like JWST and ALMA. Previously, she was the European ALMA Programme Scientist at ESO. Prior to joining ICE-CSIC, she held faculty positions at the Academia Sinica; the University of Manchester; and the University of Virginia. Her career started with a Spitzer fellowship at UCLA after obtaining her PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2002.

In 2017, Ciska Kemper and her long-term collaborator Suzanne Madden jointly won the Grand Prix Scientifique de la Fondation Franco-Taiwanaise for their work on the interstellar medium of the Magellanic Clouds.
