Associate professor, University of Reading

Dr Claire Ryder is an Associate Professor at the Department of Meteorology, University of Reading, UK.

Dr Ryder's expertise centres around mineral dust in the atmosphere and how it can impact weather and climate. Dr Ryder's research focuses on improving our understanding of mineral dust through in-situ observations, model simulations and satellite retrievals, with a particular focus on dust transport and large mineral dust particles and their properties.

Dr Ryder has been involved in various airborne observation projects since 2006 measuring airborne aerosol particles over Africa, the tropical Atlantic Ocean, south America, western Europe and around London and the UK. She uses aircraft observations to examine detailed aerosol processes and how they interact with shortwave and longwave radiation, particularly for absorbing aerosols such as dust and smoke.
