Clare Holdsworth

Professor of Social Geography, Keele University

I am a social geographer who is particularly fascinated by the geography of relationships and responsibility. I have carried out research on diverse issues such as leaving home, undergraduate students living at home, student volunteering, young people's socialization to alcohol, drinking in later life, maternal smoking and, most recently, young entrepreneurship. The common thread that links all of this research is how people navigate responsibilities for themselves and each other, and the importance of mobility in facilitating this.
I am currently developing my interest in responsibility through a major study of the social life of busyness. This is funded by a fellowship from the Leverhulme Trust. This project uses diverse data sources to understand how busyness relates to tensions between responsibility and autonomy. You can find more about this project on my website https://timehack.co.uk.
