PhD Student, Department of Philosophy, Dalhousie University

Clarisse Paron is working on her PhD in Philosophy from Dalhousie University, with a Master of Arts in Philosophy and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta. She specializes in ethical theory (medical ethics, research ethics, rights theory, and feminist ethics), the philosophy of science and medicine, and epistemology. She enjoys teaching philosophy to undergraduate students and leading group fitness classes.

She is currently co-authoring an ethics primer to teach students ethical theory in applied ethics courses (https://caul-cbua.pressbooks.pub/aep). Clarisse is also helping the Department of Bioethics at Dalhousie University (http://ethicsinpractice.ca) and the Maritimes Medical Genetics Service at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax with various ethics projects.

Clarisse is interested in the practical application of ethics and philosophy in public health and sociopolitical issues. In a recently published paper, she discusses the public's loss of trust in scientific institutions during the COVID pandemic (https://scholar.uwindsor.ca/csspe/vol6/vol6/2).

Much of her work draws on a feminist and critical disability perspective as she is passionate about protecting vulnerable members and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in society. Recently, Clarisse gave a TEDx talk, where she discusses the ethical implications of our beliefs, speech, and actions in contributing to stigma toward mental illness (https://www.ted.com/talks/are_you_contributing_to_stigma).
