Daniel's research interests lie broadly in the study of nationalism and national identity.

His doctoral research explores the relationship between language and nationalism in Catalonia and Flanders. Daniel's PhD is entitled One Nation, One Language? Understanding the Linguistic Disputes in Catalonia and Flanders.

Daniel is also a Research Assistant at the Centre on Constitutional Change, supervised by Professor Michael Keating. His research compares the experience of independence and autonomy debates in the Basque Country, Catalonia, Flanders and Québec.
