David Andrew Griffiths

Researcher in Science Studies, Cardiff University

David is a researcher at Cardiff University. He is currently completing a multidisciplinary PhD in Science Studies, particularly at the intersection of animal studies, medical humanities, and gender/sexuality studies.

He is interested in public understandings of science, particularly microbiology, and how this affects health practices. His doctoral thesis researches the relationships and tensions between sex, science and symbiosis.

His research includes how we think of bacteria - both as dangerous invaders and as symbiotic or "friendly" and often essential to health. He also studies parasitism, both as a biological phenomenon and its cultural meanings.

His current work is investigating how symbiosis and parasitism contribute to human health, and the role of public understandings of the microbiological in this.
