Vice-Chancellor and President, University of South Australia

Professor David Lloyd was appointed Vice Chancellor and President of the University of South Australia in August 2012, and took up his position in January 2013.

Professor Lloyd is a biochemist who holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Chemistry and a PhD in Medicinal Organic Chemistry from Dublin City University, and was also a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and was the inaugural Chair of the Irish Research Council.

Prior to beginning as Vice Chancellor at UniSA, he was Bursar and Director of Strategic Innovation at Trinity College Dublin, one of Europe’s oldest and most prominent universities, having been Dean and Vice President of Research at Trinity from 2007 to 2011.

As a specialist in computer-aided drug design, Professor Lloyd headed Trinity College’s Molecular Design Group (MDG). He also has a strong background in research commercialisation, patenting and spinning out research from the MDG, having also worked as a senior scientist in applied design at De Novo Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge
