David Murakami Wood is Canada Research Chair in Critical Surveillance and Security Studies at the University of Ottawa. He is a specialist in the sociology and geography of surveillance, security, and global cities, and has done research in Japan, Brazil, the UK and Canada. He is the co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the journal, Surveillance & Society, co-editor with Torin Monahan, of Surveillance Studies: A Handbook (Oxford University Press, 2018) and co-editor with David Lyon, of Security Intelligence and Surveillance in the Big Data Age: the Case of Canada (UBC Press, 2021). His current work sits broadly under the heading of "platform cities in an age of planetary surveillance" and examines the nexus of cities, AI, neoliberal capitalism and political separatism.
