Lecturer in Hispanic Studies, University of Manchester

Dr Deborah Madden is a Lecturer in Hispanic Studies at the University of Manchester. Her research interests centre on the intersection of culture, politics and history in twentieth-century Iberia, with a particular focus on gender and sexuality, and feminist fiction. Current projects include research into representations of the Spanish Civil War in popular culture, the intersection of feminist and memory politics and bio-politics in contemporary Spain. A monograph on socialist feminists during the Spanish Second Republic is currently in preparation, supported by an AHGBI-WiSPS Dorothy Sherman-Severin Research Fellowship (2019-2020), alongside an extended research project on abortion politics in contemporary society.
