Professor of Economics and Canada Research Chair in Macroeconomics and Productivity, University of Toronto

I am a Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge USA. My research lies at the intersection of macroeconomics, development, and labor economics. My recent work focuses on the role of resource allocation across firms or sectors in accounting for aggregate outcomes such as productivity and structural transformation. My work has appeared in leading economic journals. I received a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota and an undergraduate degree from UCAB in Caracas (Venezuela). I was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) but I grew up in Caracas. I live in Toronto with my wife and son.
