Dr Dirk Brand is an Extraordinary Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Leadership at Stellenbosch University, and an independent legal consultant. He is an admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa and holds the following degrees: BComm, LLB, LLM (European Union Law) and LLD (Constitutional Law). He has published various articles and contributions to books on commercial law, constitutional law and international relations that appeared in publications in South Africa, Germany, Italy, Romania and the USA. His doctoral thesis was also published as Financial Constitutional Law – a comparison between Germany and South Africa, by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in 2006. He continues to consult in the fields of international relations, constitutional law and public governance.
He is co-chairperson of the International Study Group on Co-Production of Public Services of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) and also a member of the Board of the IPSA (International Political Science Association) Research Committee on Comparative Federalism and Multi-level Governance.
