Ellen Howley is an Assistant Professor in the School of English at DCU, having completed her PhD in 2020. She is the co-editor, alongside Ian Hickey, of Seamus Heaney's Mythmaking (Routledge, 2023), a collection of essays that explores Seamus Heaney's use of myth across his poetry. Her primary area of focus is contemporary Irish and Caribbean poetry and her most recent project examines how poets from both places write about the sea. Influenced by ideas of postcolonialism and ecocriticism, she has published widely in academic journals and for general audiences. Her academic work has appear in the Journal of Commonwealth Literature, Irish Studies Review, Comparative Literature and the Honest Ulsterman, her other writing has been published by the Irish Times, RTE Brainstorm and HeadStuff.
