Emma has a PhD in Sociology from Macquarie University. Her research and teaching experience has primarily focused on social policy and the sociology of everyday life. She specialises in qualitative methodologies. Policy Press is publishing a book based on her doctoral research on culturally diverse perspectives of the welfare system, provisionally titled, Moral Selves and Mean Welfare: Responsibility and Vulnerability in Multicultural Sydney. She is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Macquarie University exploring community development in multicultural high-rise apartments and a Research Associate on an ARC Discovery project on housing precarity among international students.
