Emmy Kageha Igonya

Associate research scientist, African Population and Health Research Center

Dr. Emmy Kageha Igonya is an Associate Research Scientist with the Population Dynamics
Sexual and Reproductive Health Unit at the African Population and Health Research Center
(APHRC). Currently, she is working on the Challenging the Politics of Social Exclusion
project with a specific focus on sexual and gender minorities. She holds a Ph.D. degree in
Medical Anthropology from the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR),
University of Amsterdam. She is a qualitative research expert with experience in
ethnography, including using participatory methods. Her research interests include sexuality,
reproductive health and rights, HIV, sexual and gender minorities, drug use, sex work, infant
feeding, social protection, and support groups. Previously, she was at the AISSR, University
of Amsterdam, and Pricewaterscoopers Ltd.
