Etienne B. Schmitt is an assistant professor of political science at Concordia University (Montreal, Quebec)

After graduated in B.A. in political science, and M.A. in European studies at IEP de Strasbourg (France), he defended his doctoral thesis in political theory at Université du Québec à Montréal under the supervision of Alain-G. Gagnon and Michel Seymour. He continued his academic carreer with a postdoctoral fellowship at Università di Corsica Pasquale Paoli (France) under the supervision of André Fazi.

His research focuses mainly on the construction of ideologies in a minority context. Etienne B. Schmitt questions hegemonic phenomena, social and ideal representations and the power relations between majorities and minorities. In a comparative approach, he analyzes autonomism and the empowerment of local governements. Etienne B. Schmitt is also working on the pluralism issue within socialism and the new left movements. His ground is located in North America, Europe and Middle East.
