PhD Candidate, Department of Anthropology, Columbia University

Fern completed her BA (Hons) in Anthropology the University of Queensland, and is now working on her PhD at Columbia University in New York city. She is researching emergent political responses to climate change; in particular, anti-civilization activism in the Pacific Northwest of the US. She is the recipient of the prestigious Vanier national Canadian scholarship, and a research grant from the US National Science Foundation. She has written about free education movements and is a co-founder of the Brisbane Free University. She also worked on Aboriginal land title cases in Queensland.
