I completed my PhD at the University of Manchester in 2005 on the effectiveness of environmental assessment. Since then I have contributed numerous peer reviewed publications on the performance of different environmental management instruments and supervised more than 50 masters and PhD students (Scopus h-index of 18). I am currently appointed as a professor of environmental management at the North West University (NWU), South Africa. I serve on the editorial boards of all three leading international environmental assessment journals (EIA Review, JEAPM and IAPA) and between 2009 and 2014 I also acted as co-editor of one of these journals namely, Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal (IAPA). Most recently in 2020 I was awarded the International Individual Award by the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) for my sustained contributions to the field of environmental assessment.
